Supplication for the Future
Hi there Madam Caller
You've come to call a dance
We hope for happy dancing
With reels and jigs perchance
Don't assume we're experts
That we've done the dance before
We might be curious strangers
Who wandered through the door!
Lead us through manoeuvres
With clarity and care
Don't let the 'experts' put us off
Just think ahead - be fair
Let your memory recall
How you felt ill at ease
How complicated dances seemed
How wobbly were your knees!
The 'Know -it-all' who pushed you
And shouted 'figure of eight'
(It could have been a figure of nine
That put you in a state)
But when he shouted louder
It sounded like a curse
Although instead of helping
It made the matter worse'
No genius was ever born
Knowing every figure
The dancing moves are changing
The list is growing bigger
Dance numbers are declining
We need fresh stimulation
More new faces in our midst
To cause the clubs inflation
So Madam Caller spare a thought
And welcome in the 'New'
With your help and guidance
They'll be as good as you!
